of destructive forces of the 808 Tank Destroyer
Battalion.
Summary:
Not until WWII started did the world become aware of the need for tank destroyers.
The 808th Tank Destroyer Battalion was trained in a variety of settings here in the states before they were shipped overseas.
The 808th Tank Destroyer Battalion saw 128 days of continuous combat. They were attached to at least 3 Infantry Divisions during their heaviest days of combat.
The 808 tank destroyers fought to gain control of the Maginot Line, fought in the Battle of the Bulge, helped secure the Seigfried Line, were instrumental in the liberation of the concentration camp at Gotha and were as far east as any other battalion had gone into Europe.
General Patton considered the 808 to be his own TD Battalion.
The men fought for our freedom and the freedom from Nazism worldwide.
