I am sorry to announce the death of my dad, 808er Ray Followell.
Dad was proud to have served with the808th and going to the reunions was a highlight for him every year. He traveled quite a bit, but the reunions were always his favorite.
Dad helped support my efforts on the website after my own arthritis
became so severe I could not work anymore. He seeded our 808th.com
checking account with $300.00 to insure that finances did not dry up
when donations are coming slowly.
I have always hesitated to mention dad on the site so that it
didn't look as though I had created the site solely to honor him. He is gone now and I will honor him
in this site. I
will always consider myself lucky to be able to say he was my dad.
May he rest in peace.

"My great-Uncle was Robert Marion Bell of the 808th. His photo appears
on this website. I would greatly appreciate any memories or information
about Bob. His sister (my grandmother) said that he stepped on a 'live'
wire and died on electrocution on May 28, 1945 - after the fighting was
over but before he could safely make it home. I have not been able to
verify this and am hoping that someone reading this may remember a
fellow 808th soldier who survived the war but sadly died before he hade
it home. I would sincerely appreciate any memories of my Great Uncle.
Please contact Beth at email (email address removed by webmaster) if you
have any information."
I would really appreciate it if you would post this note on your
guestbook on the website, Diana. If that is not possible, I understand,
but I just wanted to make one more attempt for information.
Thank you again for all your help,
Beth
Please
send any info you have to the webmaster
with this link and I will forward it on to Beth.
I am Yvonne Langlinais King. My father was Sergeant Robert Langlinais
(1914-1977) of the 808. My son Taylor is a Boy Scout, and his patrol is
the Panther Patrol. When he completes his requirements and receives his
Eagle, I would also like to present him with a replica patch from the
808 in memory of his Grandfather. Does anyone know where I can get
one....Thank you for your help.....Yvonne

My father was Harold S. Johnson. He proudly served during WWII with the
808th Tank Destroyer Battalion. His best friend was John Kluba. John
Kluba was at out house every Sunday for as long as I can remember back.
He and my father had a wonderful friendship. Some of their best times
were reminising about the good old days. Once a year they would Breda,
Iowa to visit Brinker where I am sure more reminiscing was going on.
When the movie Patton came out, my father said "that's how it was", that
he marched with Patton. He loved that movie, that and the Battle of the
Buldge. After reading the website I see why these movies meant so much
to him.
We lost Harold in 1987 to cancer, John Kluba around 1992 or 93 died in
his sleep.
I have enclosed pictures that I found in dads' belongings. I hope you
can add them to the website. I would appreciate it if in the roll call
you include a picture of Harold Johnson and John Kluba. I know they are
smiling down on us being included in teh 808 roll call. There is also a
few reunion pictures. I hope someone can identify the other fellows.
God bless you and the wonderful site you have created.
Sincerely Julie Ferry

Such hospitality. What a nice gentleman. I can appreciate him talking
old times, breaking bread together at nephew Daves (Cooking Place).
I also appreciate him letting my daughters help feed the Catfish. When
they grow older, they will know what it means to be Free in a Free
country. They will know the price, sacrifice, and bravery. I cannot
thank enough, therfore I will never stop saying Thank You. Our upcoming
trip to American History in D.C. in 2008 will help support what we
teach. God Bless all of us and keep us.
Thanks, James E Nay, Proud Christian, Father, Patriot.
Dear Diana. I read the article of Mc Kennas' Relatives. The pictures
that he is refering to was a 1959 reunion in Oglebay Park in W.
Virgin9ia which I attended. The pictures in the snow were not taken in
Europe. They were taken in Iron Mountain Michigan. We were on winter
manuvers testing winter equipment We lived in makeshift leanto's that we
constructes. I f he wants to contact me , I have a 1959 picture Perhaps
I can give him some names. Vin Valente
Emily Valente has passed. Emily was the wife of Vincent Valente S/Sgt.
Vincent was the radio operator for the 808s' Colonel McDonald.

Marion Bell
Family legend has always been that Robert Marion Bell stepped on a wire
while on board the ship to come home. I am trying to reconcile verbal
stories with the inscription on the tombstone and trying to collect
history on his war service. Any help or guidance you might offer would
so very much be appreciated.

I hope you received my e-mail concerning the death of my father John
Fondale. I used my daughter's e-mail due to difficulty with trying to
send from the web page. Dad passed away May 31st. He was always proud to
be a member of the 808. He was the TD commander that protected the CP at
the battle of Struth. He seldom talked about it, except in the context
of the horrers of war. I only mention it now, because the battle and
incident are part of the 808 and 65th division websites.
Please reply back so that I know you received this and the other
message.
Sincerely,
Philip M. Fondale
Thanks for all that you do to maintain this site!

Hello,
Please advise if this is the right area to begin my research. My name is
Jeff McMaster. My grandfather was in a tank battalion during WWII. I
recently visited his grave and decided to research his military outfit.
The markings on his grave match that of the 808th and I see you have a
possible match of his name listed on your roll call. I'm sure there is a
chance of soldiers with the same name but I thought I would check with
you. His name is Clinton McMaster Sr. I have other military numerics as
well. Could you advise who C. McMaster on your roster is?
Or where I could reference other tank battalions?
Thank you.

The webmaster did send him info on where to start his search but if
anybody can help, we would appreciate anything you can add.

Sir,
I have been trying, without success, to locate any information anyone
may have concerning my Grandfather SSgt Russell L Schroeder. He is gone
but I want to compile a history for my kids. If you could pass this
information to members of your organization I would be most
appreciative. Here is what I know about his service, it is all off of
his discharge papers.
SSgt Russell L Schroeder
Entered 5 Feb 41 separated 24 Dec 45
B Battery 644 Tank Destroyer Battalion (this is on his discharge from Ft
Monmouth NJ)
Served in the ETO France, Germany, Holland, Belgium, Switzerland,
England, and Scotland.
Assignment history:
Basic training, field artillery (521)
Anti tank NCO (610)
Supply NCO (821)
I also know that he played the part of a German Sgt in the movie Sahara
that was being filmed in California while he was stationed there.
I appreciate any help you can provide. I can be reached at this e mail
address or 908-229-0099.
Thank you,
Jim Little
I just finished watching the DVD series 'Band of Brothers'. It reminded me
alot of what my father related about his experiences in WWII. I remember
a couple 808 reunions that our family attended when I was a youngster. I
also recall when I was travelling around the USA for work in the early
'70's of several men in different parts of the country who had served
with my father and I was requested to call them when I was in the
locale. I was always welcomed into there homes and was treated like
another son. I believe this is part of the reason I became the type of
person I am.
My father was Ervin Mick. He passed in 1997, but hopefully will be
remembered by all.

Looking through the roll call under the Ms I noticed the name of
Middletom.
Could this be Middleton rather than Middletom? I had a friend whose
brother, Will (I presume William) Middleton, was in the Tank Destroyers.
It's been quite a number of years since the story was related to me but
if
I remember correctly I was told he was in B Company of the 808th and
died
from wounds shortly (March ?) before Germany surrendered.
